Anglo-Saxon Cruciform Brooch
Introduction
As part of the Master’s program at the University of Lincoln in the UK, we were given the opportunity to work with a local archaeological group who were working on an Anglo-Saxon burial site. Each student was therefore given one of the finds to conserve and research. I was given a cruciform brooch which had mineralized textile still in situ. I was able to remove active corrosion from the brooch while preserving the mineralized textile, then fabricated new housing for the brooch for better transportion and storage. It is noted in the report that treatment was halted due to the corona virus pandemic but would follow the treatment plan as was previously laid out. This treatment was concluded as was proposed but is not included in this final report. Due to the nature of university assignments this report was due before the treatment could be concluded, though a more concise but complete report was provided to the archaeological group for their records.
